I just updated my map to the latest EU map version (Jan 19). I was surprised how long the download took (c. 30 minutes) despite having a fast 70 Mbps fibre broadband connection.

I also noticed that after the update about 8Gb of data was left behind in the folder C:\Users\[Your name]\Appdata\Roaming\Mazda\download_cache\. This stored data appears to serve no useful purpose so I deleted it. Is there a reason Mazda Toolbox leave this cache data behind or is it just sloppy software engineering on their part?

I checked there are restore files available in via Mazda Toolbox although I keep local images of my updates. I assume the backup data is stored on Mazda servers somewhere. Is the the restore process via Toolbox reliable?

I think it leaves it here, in case you have to update multiple SD cards, like a dealer for example.

In my case it's useful since I update cards for friends and familiy, I don't have to download it everytime I perform an update.

I haven't had to use the restore process yet, so I can't comment on that.
