Mazda says not to alter height.

I was just reading the manual with my new 3 Sport GT with tech package and they say if you have City Driving Braking feature to not change ride height because the system may not activate or it may activate when it shouldn't and cause a serious accident. I wanted to drop an inch to 1.5" but now wonder how real this warning is.

hahahhaa... damn that really sucks. I don't think I have this feature on my 3 s Touring, what does it do? break for you if you get too close to the car in front of you???

it has front radar involved right?

lol, that sucks man, I could imagine seeing a cars breaking system going crazy for no reason in the middle of the road... lmao... :turned:
can you just shut it off?
I'm not sure how serious this warning is.
I mean how about cars driving with low tire pressure?
There has to be some variance. Also how about drivers who load their cars with a lot of luggage/ junk?
Not to mention a fully loaded car with passengers will probably yield more than an inch drop especially if
The driver and passengers are heavy set.

I hope it doesn't break for you. But it does brake automatically when the system notices the distance between you and the car in front are fast approaching to avoid an accident.
Works with radar by the windshield.

This is understandable. The radar is set to a specific height which cannot be adjusted. If it points too low, you may get braking when you hit a speed bump or a hill.
I agree with @rvoll on this one. If you lower the car and rake it forward as a lot of us do, the radar could end up pointing at the ground. If you reverse rake, it could point at the sky and not know you're about to crash till too late. You'd have to be very careful lowering your car if you have this system.
The SCBS should only kick in at 19mph or below, so mostly when you are going slow or slowing down. Not that you want it to stop randomly, even at low speeds, lol.

I would try to contact Mazda directly about this. If you ask a dealer, they will have no idea what you're talking about and tell you not to do it.

but if you had a full load of people, doesn't that equate to lowering your car?
and I don't think it saids anything on the manual about that does it?

however, if you lower your car AND have a full load of people, then maybe that's too much of a variance?

Good points. t makes sense. I did not want to lower much, only like an inch. I was thinking of getting eibach springs. maybe coil overs would be better so i could lower all 4 corners exactly 1 inch to not change the rake. The manual says the system may not work if you are loaded with luggage of heavy loads in the back seat. It seems this would change the rake, just like you said.

that's good to know...
so i'm guessing an even height change (coil overs) may have minimal impact.
Actually, the manual says "do not alter the suspension. Do not change height".

well there goes my idea of lowering the car..dang it..
maybe i'll just have to go with 19" rims then.
