My vehicle was registered in March 2017.
I put my SD card into my PC and opened up the mazda toolbox app. It then said my SD card was incompatible and I needed to download a different version so I did.

The map version I'm running is December 2019 so thankfully not that outdated

It then said something like " you are eligible for the mazda mapcare plan or there is a map update available"

So I clicked next, it then said my SD card has insufficient space and then asked me which map i want to install, so I clicked "europe" as I'm in the UK.

It then went straight to the download but I cancelled it as it didn't give me an option to do a backup.

So first question is, why was I not offered a back up , incase it goes wrong?

Secondly from what I know, the free map updates used to be for 3 years, but on cars from 2019 onward it is 5 years.

As my car is from march 2017 surely December 2019 is about the time the free update expired, so how could I be eligible for an update?
It also didn't tell me which map version/ year it was about to install, hence why I cancelled it

I'm in the UK and would appreciate some assistance, thanks

Everything seems OK. You are eligible to receive old update of 2019 but not the last one, which is June 2022
Thank you, yes I understand this.

But surely December 2019 is the newest update I can get, and this is the version I already have in My car.
I'm confused because it says I'm eligible for an upgrade

As far as i know updates are bi yearly usually december and then june... so how could I be eligible for an update, when the next one would be June 2020 which falls outside of the 3 year window?

I was triggered about this statement.
I have bought my Mazda 3 from june 2018 second hand december 2021
The maps are updated mid 2019 by the previous owner.
I thought after june 2021 I couldn't update these maps anymore.
So never have tried Mazda connect.

If I understand well it is still possible to update afterwards to older 2021 maps, (Maybe june 2021, or dec. 2020)
Because these maps are in the timeframe of 36 month after purchase.
If that is the case I will install Mazda connect and will try.

Hi,

the MZD-Connect 1 Navigation-Software is still availible for updates. But it is not for free, after your car (VIN) is older then 3-years. The 3-year-for-free-update starts with the first use of the car. Your Nav-Card ist connected to your car by the VIN-Number. Your Card will not work in an other Mazda-MZD, because of different VIN-Number.

You can update your nav-card via Mazda-Toolbox-software, but you have to pay for a) only for 1 update or b) for 3-years-updates (twice a year). The Toolbox will show you and you have to order first before the update-process starts.

Or you buy a non-OEM-Mazda-Nav-Card here. Then there is no update later possible, because this cards will not work with the toolbox! Just use it in the car, do not use it in the toolbox! If you need an update, buy a new card!

This is exactly what I thought too and that is why I never used the MZD-Connect software.
I don't want to update to the latest 2022 maps, but to older maps that were published within that timeframe of 36 months.
The post of @mikele hints to that possibility and that gives me some confusion.

Hi,

i think mikele means the ("not public") possibility to modify your Nav-Card for another 3-years-all-free-update-modus, then, of course, only with the newest nav-card availible in the toolbox. I dont think you can choose between older versions. The Toolbox only offers the newest version.

I think to modify your Nav-Card, mikele takes some money "for his service".

your suggestion is to buy a new card every time when you need to update the maps?? and what happened if put new sd in toolbox?

Only an original Mazda card, which is binded to VIN can be updated by MZD Toolbox.

If you try another card, like from Ebay it will be blacklisted and your VIN too.
As VIN is blacklisted, it is also not possible anymore to use original Mazda cards with MZD Toolbox.
So if you buy an Ebay card, don't connect to MZD Toolbox, but buy another one if you want to update.
