Hi all:

I just bought a 2021 Mazda3 Turbo PP this week. This message pops up after I turn off my car and it goes away by itself. This message also pops up after I start up the car and it goes away by itself. Does anyone encountered this problem before and how you guys fix it?

No but I'm sure the dealer does. Its a brand new car with a warranty. If there is a problem let the dealer fix it.

Could you please make a picture of the warning message for my information?

My 2020 model had a flat battery (due to my own mistake), but I never had a warning. I already concluded Mazda does not give such warnings. With a picture I have some prove for the dealers. And maybe it is only from 2021+, still the picture would be helpfull.

This is by design. It just means the car doesn't like to run electronics without the engine running. Or put differently, if you listen to music, leave the A/C on, etc while the engine is not running, you'll drain your battery and require a jump start, hence the prompt to start your vehicle.

Think of it as a low fuel warning light.

I saw that message after shutting off my 2021 Turbo 3. The doors and trunk were open for about 5-10 minutes while I was installing my phone mount and doing some other things. I also saw this happen to one in the dealer showroom when I opened the door to sit in the car.

I bought a 2021 Mazda 3 premium with the same problem. The dealer exchanged it for another Mazda 3 Premium which now also displayed the same problem. I did not have electronics on using Accessory mode. All I did is park and shut the motor. Clearly, some defect that Mazda needs to address.

The BP has way more parasites than the previous gen. Buddies here have addressed this issue w/ a trickle charger like the CTEK MXS 5.0.

I had the same problem just last weekend. I posted about it. I ended up using a trickle charger to get it back up to 12.8 Volts. It was showing low at 12.3. I also did a crank test to ensure it didn’t drop below 10 when I started it. If it does the battery may be bad. Since I trickle charged it, it went away. But Mazda did offer to fix it for me. My guess is the cars sit for a bit before being sold and the battery drops a bit. They should start checking them before delivery in my opinion. Enjoy your new turbo! I know I am.

It’s definitely an issue. I too have the same issue with my 2021 M3T - 3 days old. I sat inside the car for 5 min after turning it off with the interior lights on, that’s all it took. Again, not normal. I have a dash cam plugged into the USB but they lose power after 3 min. Computer glitch 100%.

I've encountered this issue once as well. Was drying the interior door panels of my 2021 M3 HB when the message pops up. When I started car and let it sit idle for 5 minutes, turned the engine off and the message doesn't go away for about 10-15 seconds. It only went away when I took the car out for a drive. Nothing was running when I had my car's doors opened though. I wonder if the sensors are waiting for the "walkaway lock" to engage during those times and if disabling this feature will rectify the issue. Still this shouldn't be happening at all then I wouldn't feel safe dropping the ride to a car wash.

HERE IS THE FIX: When you park your vehicle, PRIOR to shutting off the engine engage the emergency brake by pulling up on the button. I discovered this a couple of weeks ago when attempting to find the problem. The Mazda vehicle manuals state that is the procedure when parking the car, but unfortunately, the dealers thought it may be easier just to tell people to disengage the emergency brake when starting the car. That will enable the car to move after ignition, but not engaging the emergency brake when you park the car will leave the car's computer in gear, so to speak, and drain the battery. After advising my dealer they attempted it and it worked. Mazda is supposed to send out a notice to all dealers. Not sure of the status of that action.

Pretty sure I had my emergency brake engaged since I always remember to do that after putting the transmission to park and before shutting off the engine but I'll keep an eye on the emergency brake in the future if the low battery risk warning pops up again.

We used to think of it as something to pull if your foot pedal brake failed. Also related, pumping your brakes when coming to a stop, again just in case they failed. I wonder how much Hollywood films at the time may have caused low-level mass anxiety about brakes. An old Bond movie where he's barreling down a mountain after the villain snipped his brake line comes to mind.

This was exactly what I've done before the warning message pops up:

"Opening and closing door(s)/liftgate multiple times
Everytime a door or the liftgate is opened and closed...

When cleaning the vehicle interior...with the ignition off and one or more doors/liftgate opened for a continuous 30 minutes,"

So it does seem like there are no ways to keep the car in sleep mode or disabling the electrical control area network without keeping the engine running.

Does it not affect models pre-2021?

According to the service alert, it only affects 2021 models.
