I have a Mazda 3 2011, mine is made in Japan and bought from a Mexican Dealer (Im from Mexico) and I have exactly the same issue.

I use to have a Mazda 6 2009 and I experience the same problem....the trip computer updates very infrequently.

My work is 18 km away from home (11 miles) and I have to use a highway to travel so I use plenty the cruise control.

Normally I drive in a constant of 110 km/hr (68 mph) and the trip computers since 4 weeks ago reports average speed of 39 km/h (24 mph) and barely moves no matter is my constant speed remains over 85km/h (52 mph) all the time.

No understand how the computers supposedly calculates every 2 seconds.

In my old Cobalt, there was an option in the Information Center called MPG Inst. It was real time updating. The other option in it was MPG Avg that didn't update frequently at all. Hope this helps.

I think the keyword is "average". This is not a realtime display, it needs time to calculate the "average" numbers.
+1 Nothing to worry about

Like everyone else is saying, the average is constantly being built up, so it gets harder and harder to change the average. My car was averaging 18.9mpg with like, 98% city driving, but after I took a few freeway trips, maybe 250 miles altogether while getting around 35-40mpg, my average mileage only went up to 19.0mpg.

I think all the 3s's have them. I know mine does.

Yeah, what other people said: the average (as opposed to the next trip computer menu, instant) MPG/speed will be over a longer and longer period if you don't reset it. I've taken to habitually resetting my avg MPG and avg speed with each gas tank fill up, so my averages are built up somewhere between 0-400 miles.

Sorry bout that, somewhere I missed an "s" in there!:sad 1:
Lol, it's all good.

I think I should start doing that. I'm getting tired of staring at the same low average MPG and speed. Darn city driving.
