Yeah.. I had a 2016 3 2.5L with an AT and it didn't do that at all. It would get caught between gears sometimes in traffic but it wasn't super noticeable unless you were watching the RPMs closely.

Based on some Google Fu.. early transmission failure was common in the second Gen 3s.. especially the 2010 models. Current models are said to be better but will sometimes start having symptoms of failing around the end of the warranty period.
Getting a 3rd party opinion may be worth your time and some minor expense.

I may get my MT rebuilt.. it's whining like a stuck pig in 1st above 1k RPM.. currently shifting into second immediately after getting rolling, which is no fun..
