Allright, i didnt get pictures of the install... but here's the end result:
#1) Open glovebox, pry off the dash trim
#2) There are two screws above the lcd. Take them out and lift up on the stock vent console.
#3 You will see two vent plastic tubes and a wire connected to the stock vent console. Disconnect the plastic connection for the hazards. You should now have the stock vent console out of the dash.
#4) Turn upside down, and loosen the 6 screws that hold the vent tubes in.
#5) Push the hazard button out from the inside vent console. You can now go water skiing on the stock piece now, or play dangerous frisbee with it, your choice.
#6) Loosen any bolts you see on the new vent holder console (i.e. the mazda japan oem mount), and take them out.
#7) Reattach the vent tubes with the stock screws you took off earlier on the original vent holder. (the screws from the new one didn't seem to work.. weren't long enough)
#8) Take the cables from the monitor (depends on which LCD you mount in there), and slide them into the opening you see to the left of the top vents... i.e. underneath the airbag and towards the glovebox). I am not sure how i will get to these wires later, probably by taking off the glove box itself and feeding them through the back of the glovebox where that 'door' is.
#9) Snap the hazard button (from the front) into the center hole of the new console. Reconnect the wire harness for the hazard.
#10) Reposition the new vent console into place (pretty much align the 'male' connectors to the cooresponding holes in the dash). It should snap in and align up just fine as long as the wires for the monitor aren't in the way.
#11) Reconnect the screws to the bottom of the new vent console. Snap the dash trim back in and close your glovebox.
#12) Smile (well you dont have to, but i did seeing it was my first work done all on my own).
The parts in the install include the following:
1) MAZDA JPN OEM RETRACTABLE NAVIGATION CONSOLE: http://www.japanparts.com/ Search for Part number: 143-110-003
(others may be interested in part number: 164-011-008 - 1 DIN dash console)
2) Coolnavi 700 Monitor: http://www.coolnaviusa.com/700.htm (this can be any monitor or gps system that is 7" or less) The installation of the monitor to the JAPANPARTS housing may take some custom work if it is a different mounting plate.
