I know we have a MPG thread already but its not clear if its a poll for the 2.0, or 2.5 motor and i dont think the results are very valuable right now, a few people mentioned a new poll for the 2.5 so i decided to make this thread. Vote in the poll and lets see what the results are once more, this time with more clarity!

Why not? That could prove interesting and suprinsing.
I guess my thought was that the list would be awfully long with all the different combinations.

Maybe the best way would be to have 2 separate poll threads...One for the 2.5L and the other for the 2.0L?

Or the list can be super long. I guess it's not that big of a deal.

i think the AT and MT are pretty close in mpg, the bigger differences would be 2.0 vs 2.5. Gotta draw the line somewhere or else we'll end up with lists for every trim too lol.

I've been averaging between 36-38mpg, according to the pump. I think that you will find that manual transmission will probably be 5-10% higher than automatics, despite the slightly lower EPA estimates.

Ugh I voted wrong. On the highway, I've probably been getting 43mpg+. Its very difficult to tell highway MPG considering that the cars calculations can be optimistic by as much as 3-4mpg.

I don't have a lot of fill-ups yet to fully give an accurate picture, but my signature is click-able, and the symbols dictate what type of driving and fuel were associated with each tank. Fill ups with E10 (10% ethanol) are making a bigger difference than I expected, in both drive quality and consumption so I think I'm going to stick without the E10 fuel whenever possible.

I find the automatic gearbox geared too tall; there's enough gear hunting between 6-5th gears to wonder if 2 overdrive gears was really necessary. A properly-geared vehicle revs around the torque peak at normal highway cruising speeds (130-150km/h), yet this one is geared to only run 150km/h @ 2750rpm in 6th so even the slightest hill yields a downshift. :blink 1:

My display says the averages are 39 MPG and 34 MPH. So I assume that my highway MPG is up in the low 40's. My first fill up hit a 38 average on a tank that included a 200 mile road trip. My second fill up was a 36 average that was all my typical commute.

We have had a wonderful summer this year in MD and so I've not used my AC as much as usual. I think that makes a big difference in the little 2.0. I know I can feel it in the drag when engine braking. I believe the EPA runs the AC during their test cycle whenever a car is equipped with it. May not be so noticeable on the stronger 2.5.

Hard to be very accurate. Everyone's driving conditions are different (hills, traffic, etc.) I think for highway MPG, also cruising at 60mph vs. 80mph can make huge difference as well. My experience with most other cars is cruising around 50mph is pretty much ideal as that get you into top gear at very low RPM.

I've actually found the cars calculations to be low by 2-3mpg consistently in the first 1500 miles i've owned the car. It will often say 29 or 30mpg average for the tank, but when i fill up and do the math its always 32-34mpg.

I find the trip computers calculations to be very accurate thus far. If you top off at the pump too much that may impact you calculations quite a bit, albeit in the other direction.

Most annoying thing is that even if I run the fuel down to the last bar, I barely get 10 gallons to fill. I know it's been discussed before, but to fill based on the 1/4 tank rating that Mazda recommends, that's only about 8 galloons out of 13.2 tank.

With these kinds of mpg threads, it's hard to give a single answer. There are so many things that can affect your mpg numbers. My highway mpg can range from 25-39mpg depending on terrain and distance and speed. And the trip computer is indeed very accurate as it's pretty close to what I get whenever I fill up.

2.0 MT - getting right at 40 MPG hwy with pretty much every long hwy trip. That is a calculated figure. I never use the avg mpg screen in the info guage. I just divide the miles by the gas and it's been consistently right at 40. I'm a happy camper at this point.

sometimes i wonder if we actually do have a 13.2 gallon tank... I'd hate to go down to zero to empty knowing that I *should* have 2.2 gallons remaining and run dry 5 miles later. i've run it down to ~3 miles and it only took 10.9 gallons to fill up.

Remember that EPA highway is measured at 60mph. In a state where some of the roads I drive regularly are 80 MPH, and 85 MPH roads exist, I have to take that into account.

Ambient temps (and A/C use) and Summer vs. Winter blend all make noticeable differences but if I've got an actual stretch around 60-65 mph, I can absolutely achieve 36-36.5 MPG. Short bursts I can do slightly better but that's not realistic. Cruising at speeds up to 70-75, maybe 32-35 MPG for realistic highway use, but 80-85 will hurt mileage significantly.

My city cycle is typically 24.5-27, but never less than 23-24 MPG. For city cycles that include lots of freeway cruising, I can get 28-31 or so.

Touring S, 2.5l
