Good afternoon!

Here we go. First technical malfunction just after 3 years...

Mazda 3 Sedan 2014 51000 km, Finland.

Power folding mirrors won't retract completely or vice versa. Stopping halfway or nearly at the end. What are the options? Cannot bring to dealer, time is up, will have to pay... A lot. :smile2:

What are the options?

Since it wasn't an option on my car i am not sure.
There could be a fuse to cut the power to them, which might also stop you from having control over adjusting them.
Seems there is an additional piece that you can buy to have the mirrors automatically fold when you turn the car off, do you have that?

No, I don't. I have a switch. To regulate mirrors and to fold them.

Well...

I went to the dealer and apparently they could not identify the problem and booked an appointment for electrical issues after New Year. Knowing Finland I will probably receive quite a bill.

Once again I will get back to you.

I am still open to any DIY suggestions and know-how!

An update to the issue!!!

Electrician or whatever he is called checked and told me that all they can do is replace both mirrors. Great, right? NOT. 260 euros each + work. Note that I am talking about a certified Mazda dealer in Finland. Obviously I told them not to replace mirrors.

Truly disappointing.

Dealership ripped me off for 113 euros for just checking the freaking voltage.

Brilliant service from certified dealership in Finland. Freaking wankers!

Hello! I guess installing used mirrors won't permanently fix the issue since all the Mazda folding mirrors have the same problems. Additionally this is also not a cheap solution. What usually makes those mirrors to stuck is a worn out plastic gearwheel inside the folding mechanism. What you can do is to search for replacement gears on Ebay or Aliexpress - it will cost about $10 for the gears (set of 2) plus shipping. Just an example (unfortunately I'm not able to post links yet, please replace DOT) - aliexpress DOT com/item/Quality-goods-1-piece-30-teeth-motor-Rearview-mirror-plastic-gear-for-Mazda-car/32749534278.html

Just another update to the issue...

I don't know about this freaky $hit, but mirrors are working perfectly now. I've tried dozens of times.

I've noticed one other thing in the beginning of this fault > When you start the car and mirrors are folded and the switch is set to "Unfold" > Then they work. I also mentioned it to "dealership maintenance".

Could it be possible that system got somehow re-calibrated by itself? I don't think it is because of the plastic gearwheel inside the folding mechanism, cause mirrors are working too perfectly now...

According to this Aliexpress offer it might be the 30 teeth gear:
"€ 4,96 | 1 piece 30 teeth car motor Automatic folding Rearview mirror Metal gear for 2013 year Mazda M6 M3 atlas CX-5 CX-7 car"
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/bdy7E812

But don't you have a guarantee? If so, let the dealer fix it for free...

I have the same issue on my 2017 3 GT - similar to few posts before. After washing the car with pressure washer, the water somehow get inside the mirror housing and then folding only works partially on the driver side. After drying up / few hours it comes live again and works without issues. Based on my mechanic's advice, I turned off the auto folding function via the door switch and use it only when its really required. According to him these have construction issues - weak/plastic parts used which will fail sooner or later.

Worth a question to the dealer... however they might going to refuse warranty repair due to its a tear-wear part.
