Hello All,

I replaced my 16 inch stock rims on my 2015 Mazda 3 with 18 inch and the tires that it came with were 225/40/18. Now, I want to up the profile a little bit to give it some cushion on our terrible pot hole roads and also to fill in the wheel gap I currently have by a little, do you think going to a 225/45/18 will cause or have any issues? or should I just play it safe and stick with the same size?

The research I’ve done says that by switching to such size is not within the +3% range and can potentially have brake failures, any advice/suggestions?

tire size

Standard size is 215/45-18. If you wanted a softer ride but a wider tire, you should have gone with a 17" wheel with a 225/50-17 tire.

The tires came with the wheels when I purchased them. The person who I bought it from had on it a performance car, so I never bother to switch the tires until now that I need to replace them. I guess the tires that I have on now are on the wider side, would going 215/45-18 as you suggested which is the standard have any effects on fitting or drivability? Would anyone recommend going to that 215/45 size?

How wide are the rims?
Standard size from Mazda is 215/45/18. I run 225/45/18. I had the oem 18s when I bought my Mazda3, but I sold them off. I don't feel any ride difference between the two, but that is just me. Weight would be different, but I don't know off hand.
I know some tire shops recommend a 225/40/18 tire in place of a 215/45/18, I don't know why (again)
