Have you ever seen a rock cause a scratch rather than a chip?

I'm still not happy with the paint quality with Jet Black thus far.. It really seems to eat it from everyday debris and random objects.. I keep seeing fine scratches showing up on a weekly basis on areas like the rear fenders, door trims and obviously the hood, but they are always several inches long and not necessarily arrow-straight but are almost always horizontal. Can rocks be doing this rather than chipping? Seems weird when you try to think of the physics involved but I don't know how else to explain the scratches. I'm getting sick of trying to buff them all out- they are a little too deep to get them out by hand. I don't park in high traffic areas.. Home, work, garage, done.

I have one long scratch on my driver side doors. I have no idea how I got it, especially since I baby the car to the max. I buffed out as much as I could, but it's still visible when looked at from certain angles. I have no answer for you, but I feel your pain.

I wouldn't think so...its possible I guess but I am assuming rocks do chips, dents, and nicks. Scratches come from plant/shrubs rubbing up against the car, contaminated mf towels/clothes/sponge, automatic car washes that use brushes, key marks from haters, etc.

Black is a tough color to maintain, I know cause I had 3 in the past. Its a lovely color but really needs to be babied...well all colors should be (I treat my white just like my previous black cars). So 2 bucket method hand wash, use clean mf towels/cloths, wipe gently with single back and fourth motions no circular, etc.

Its possible Mazda's clear coat is just on the soft side unlike German cars so swirls and scratches show up a lot more.

If you arent driving behind trucks and or parking near plants/trees....the paint shoulnd't be getting to messed up this early on.

My snowflake white has tons of rock chips but thats because of heavy freeway use.
