I posted this question a while ago but wanted to post it again because my car is being looked at right now by Mazda.

I have a new (few months old) Mazda 3 GTs hatch and have a strange vibration in the gear shift (Manual) between 60-70mph. I can feel the vibration and also hear it...noise is not super loud, but it is driving me nuts.

Dealer is looking at it now. They are able to replicate vibration in 6th gear, but they said they cannot get it to make any noise. They said vibration in 6th gear is normal. I drive mostly highway miles, so having a vibration that you can hear in 6th gear is not acceptable to me. I can't imagine this is normal. Does anyone else have this? Even my little FIAT 500 doesn't have a gear shift that has a vibration or makes noise. Wondering how hard I should press Mazda about this. I love the car...but this one issue really does annoy me. Thanks in advance, for any feedback.

I have it but in 4 gear at 40 - 50 kmh and when am going a little uphill. Sometimes i try to shift it again in the same gear and it stop vibrating. For me its like the gear its not full in gear. Dont know maybe it will fix itself like sometimes do :) Sry for my English.

Is this a common problem. Is it an assembly /parts problem depending whether your car is made in Mexico or Japan?

You could try gently pulling on the gear stick to bring the selector fork into contact with the hub. If the vibration stops then it is the gear stick picking up some stray vibration from something,if it doesn't stop then it is in the drive train and needs investigation.

Yes...sounds similar. About 75% of the time, if I downshift to 5th then shift to 6th again, the problem goes away, and the shifter is completely still without vibration (as should be).

After 3 weeks in the shop, I am happy to report that Mazda has fixed my transmission. The work was all covered by warranty. They had to replace the 5th and 6th gear components. Everything is working perfectly now. I must say I was very impressed with Mazda of Towson, MD. Although it took a while to fix (mostly because it took a long time to understand what actually had to be fixed in the first place), they were diligent and communicated with me every day to give me an update. Plus, they gave me a loaded CX-9 as a loaner car. Been very happy with this dealer.

I have the same thing, but also in 4th gear like someone mentioned above, taking the car to the dealer in a week for oil change and all that, gonna have them take a look at it.

Wow that is great to hear, its all that not often on car forums you see a difficult problem like this go like this "i brought it in and they fixed it"

thankfully I have no vibration in my car in any gear... mine is about 3 months old now, hopefully it will stay that way.
