I’m thinking about replacing the 8" Bose woofers in the front doors of my 2014 Mazda 3 hatch (iTouring with Tech Package). After speaking to a couple local installers they both recommended good quality 6-1/2" speakers as replacements instead of shallow mount 8" woofers.
I would like to replace those Bose woofers because their bass often sound muddy and mid-bass is not as punchy as 6-1/2" speakers I had in the past but they can produce noticeable lower frequency bass than 6-1/2" speakers I have heard before.
I was thinking about getting a pair of 8" woofers such as Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 or Infinity Reference Flex Woofer 8S but the installers I spoke to said I shouldn’t bother. (May be installing 6-1/2" speakers is easier than 8" woofer because the OEM woofer bracket can be re-used with minor modification?)
Can you guys provide some thoughts on this subject?
Do your prefer good 6-1/2" speakers or 8" woofers in the front doors?
Please note that I have no plan to install subwoofer enclosure in rear hatch area.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
