our cars don't have a foglight indicator on the dash like other manufacturers do
But I personally like that, I just leave the fogs on the on position

Again, not for this market. Build one part for all markets, adapt as necessary.

Go out and look at it under really strong light. The icon is there. I can't imagine IL is a completely different market than MO. It may not light up but it is there. (AKA, they did make one part for all markets. They just chose not to use it for whatever reason.)

There you go. On a US model 2017 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5. It's there. You just have to figure out how to hook it up. ;)
I looked at the dash with a light and it doesn't have that fog light spot like yours
So on 2014's at least they didn't even think about it
Perhaps they just wanted to keep it consistent who knows

My 2012 Speed 3 does not have a spot for a fog-light indicator in the dash. It is no real lose as I cannot even tell when they are on. There is maybe a little dim light showing the edge of the road, but not of any appreciable help. Does anyone else have this problem and are there any suggestions on improving this?

Rewire them so they come on with just the corner lights on. Fog lights should be low to the ground to light up the road ahead and not the air above it. They work best if the main beams aren't on. If you want to light the road with main beams on, that's what driving lights are for. For my truck and Element, I would have fogs done by after market shops that would just wire the fogs on their own power wire and switch independent of the vehicle's lighting wires. Makes a huge difference when you're driving through near white out conditions at night over mountain passes or through thick fog on the interstate at night.

I'm just wondering why our GTs with fog lights don't come with the indicator on the dash.

Clearly, the fog light symbol is there.

I found a picture of the Australian spec 2017 SP25 GT and it has the symbol on the dashboard:

I get that Mazda has the indicator on all cars, but is only functional in certain markets, because they do that kind of stuff with other parts, like same Infotainment hardware but different software; that makes sense to me. But why the hell would they disable a fog light indicator? Because they could then deduct $2 off the U.S. MSRP?

....weird
