Can the flexible oil change schedule be followed in severe driving conditions? I make mostly short trips and let my car idle while it defrosts in the winter. Can I still trust the computer to calculate oil life or should I be on a fixed schedule?

I've read the manual, but it's a little confusing. So, here I am.

From my experience the computer hasn't indicated by any means a decent ability to calculate this.

The algorithm that Mazda uses to determine oil service life is not very advanced, so I'd stick with the fixed intervals in your situation.
