Good afternoon everyone,
I'm new here and I need some insight into what may be wrong with my 3. Some background, it's a 2008 Mazda 3 iSport 2.0L with 145,594 miles on it. Last oil change was back in September of this year, got a fuel system flush done and requested the dealership to look at anything else that usually needs to be done with a high mileage vehicle. One of the engine mounts was broken after having been shipped from Europe to Illinois and has since been fixed. I also just had 4 Michelin Cross Climate V2's put on the vehicle and an alignment completed.
The problem I'm running into is the fuel efficiency has taken a nose dive since earlier this year. I used to be able to get upwards of 360 miles on a tank of gas, now I'm barely able to push 270. Even with everything stated above the fuel efficiency hasn't gotten any better. The car doesn't have the worth to keep bringing it in for exploratory diagnoses but I cannot afford to buy a new/used car at this time as we just recently financed a 2022 CX-9 and we need two vehicles. The last time I brought it in to a dealership (this past October) with fuel efficiency concerns the techs did find the intake gasket to be cracked and allowing more air into the engine than required causing it to run very rich. That has been fixed and the thermostat housing has also been replaced (check engine light came on with a thermostat code).
I'm not sure what else to do or look for to find out why my fuel efficiency has tanked so dramatically. Any suggestions will be welcome and I'll provide any information you need. I want to keep this car running for as long as possible without breaking the bank at the pump.
