Hi!

I have a 2015 Mazda 3. I use a GoPro as a dashcam and iPhone for navigation. Since the USB ports do not have enough power, I have to use a car charger. I have only one but I need both the iPhone and the camera to be charging.
If I plug the camera into USB hub, it charges but I cannot start filming since it's connected into "USB mode". The same goes for iPhone, if I have Google Maps on the phone and I connect it to USB hub for charging, the sound is routed thru the Infotainment System, and it doesn't work for some reason (basically when the phone is connected to the hub, I can't hear navigation voice from the phone).

TLDR: Is it possible to disable USB "data", so I can use the ports only for charging?

Thanks!

This doesn't answer your question but wouldn't a charger with two USB ports be an easy solution for this issue?

I use the following one ordered from Amazon=> Anker PowerDrive 2 (24W / 4.8A 2-Port USB Car Charger)

Its not a software thing that can be disabled. You physically must not connect the data wires between USB and device.

You can buy charging USB cable. It doesn't have data wires.

You can do an easy DIY and just get a small sliver of tape and tape the data connection wires inside the actual USB portion of your cable.

That's an idea but for the iPhone I have a fast charger with too many volts / amps for the GoPro (I think) and I don't want to kill my camera :)

Charging USB cable... didn't know about that, thanks! That might be a solution.

Yes, a charge-only USB cable is what you need. There are also data-only adapters, such as this one:

https://www.amazon.com/PortaPow-3rd-Gen-Data-Blocker/dp/B00QRRZ2QM

As a bonus, you may find that your phone will charge much faster with a charging-only USB cable/adapter than with a regular one. Yes, really. The old (pre-CP/AA) USB ports in our Mazdas can actually supply 1000mA of current, but smartphones refuse to draw that much without performing a "handshake" with the port, and the USB hub built into the old Mazda ports doesn't support that handshake. Data-only cables/adapters actually have the data wires shorted on the phone side, which tells the phone that it can draw more than the regular 500mA.
