I'm sure that Mazda executives hang on every word here...not.

But for the next iteration of the entertainment unit on Mazda cars, how about putting a universal dock for a phone behind and indeed part of the display screen?

Mazda currently lack anywhere to put a phone and placing it there would allow the phone to be also used as a traffic-facing video recorder as well as running Android Auto/Car Play. Seems a no brainer to me... Mazda please send royalties to Boyle De Cabbage England UK!!

Just after I posted this I started riffing on the idea. I drive a CX3 that has a display screen above dashboard level. There is a removable panel behind it for access to the CMU. If this panel were modified to include a universal mount with a charging dock, and patched in to the Mazda USB, then the job could be done by after-market specialists.... royalties as above please

No chance. It would be on the car centre line, below face level, (but maybe you are a person of restricted growth). And don't airbags get in your face and protect it anyway? With a proper slotted, hugging mount, along the lines of pro-clips, the phone would remain captured.

I have no idea of deceleration in car crashes but assume -2G; the mass of a phone is under 0.2Kg meaning the force on the phone trying to unseat it would be 4N (F=ma). That's roughly 400 grams force, easy to keep the phone captured.
