I bought the Mazda M011 rims from my dealer this summer and had them do the installation as well. I have been driving around with them for a couple of months and today I was at Costco putting winter tires onto my stock OEM rims and the technician said I've been using the wrong lug nuts on the M011. :frown2:

I know nothing about lug nuts and Googling didn't help me. On the lug nuts it says "M12x1.50 RH/T". How do I know if these are the right ones? I don't mind going back to the dealer, but I'd feel more comfortable if I know a little bit on the subject.

Any idea?

Edit: Not sure if it helps, but here's the sticker on the box the M011 came in.

Mazda uses M12x1.5. R means right hand thread, H/T means heat treated. Nothing unusual there. They come in many different socket sizes. Some have special splined keys.

Costco tech might have commented about the socket size. I prefer using the smaller 17mm hex headed M12x1.5 nuts over the bigger ones. They allow more room for the socket to avoid touching/scratching the wheels when loosening & tightening.

What made him think that? Did he at least explain what the issue was or was he just trying to sell you different lugs? OEM lugs are M12x1.5 with a standard 60° cone seat. Pictures of the lugs would help but I doubt there is a problem, and I seriously doubt the dealer would have put the wrong lug nuts on the car.

Thank you guys for the reassurance. I took some pictures, they aren't the greatest since it's hard to get the phone camera in there and the camera itself is bad to begin with. I scribbled some colour on the pictures so you guys know what I am talking about.

I think he was saying how the green part wasn't wide enough to fill up the entire seat and leaving that red gap between the nut and the wheel. It also looks like there's some wear (or scratches) where the green is?

Honestly I don't know what a "good fit" is. I emailed Mazda Canada last night asking what the nut lug specification is for the M011, hopefully they get back to me soon.

A smaller nut body will obviously leave a gap like that. It doesn't mean it's not seated properly.

I would not take the word of a "tech" at Costco, that one is apparently clueless.
Those are spline drive tuner type lugs. They are used when you want to avoid damage to the rim by galling up the area around the lug with the socket. I hope the dealer gave you the spline drive socket to remove them? If not you are going to have issues at some point.
