I feel like I've been researching the process for removing the intake manifold for weeks for my 2010 Mazda 3 2.0L Hatchback. I'm 100% ready for the hassle of the centre bolt. But there's a few things I don't understand (I'm fairly new to working on my car).

1. I've read the guide for the VTCS removal:

Do I have to do any of that stuff with the VTCS? I think I remember somewhere reading that someone broke their's taking the mani out. I don't know if that's related to following this guide or if they were just trying to get their VTCS out.

2. I've read that on the 2.0 L engine, it's best to unhook the fuel rail and move it aside to get more access when you slide the manifold back. I want to take my manifold right out. Do I have to move my fuel rail to get the mani out?

3. Most people appear to just slide the Mani back to work on what ever they are working on. I've even seen one guy just tilt the thing up on it's side. Is there any reason not to take it right out?

My ultimate goal is to replace the PCV valve and the hose and clean the intake manifold. I think that 160,000 KM or 100,000 Miles of mostly city driving has cause a lot of carbon build up in the TB, Intake Manifold, Engine, ect as well as damaged the PCV valve as I've started to loose oil.
