@d3vi1 : Thanks a lot for these info. I am mainly interested in the power connector and which pins it uses. Reason: I would like to find a way to use AIO tweaks without opening the CMU and solder two wires to the platine, hence the connector is already there, but no pins to plug cables into the two outer slots of the harness/connector. As I could not unplug the pins (even with opening the security thing at the connector), yesterday I ordered a harness with hopefully the same pins here at aliexpress to open it with a saw to have a look inside and determine which pins to use. The author of 2x4logic also did not know which pins are used. But with your info "Sumitomo 6098-6212 with the 6098-5611" I found a supplier in china, whom I contacted and wait for reply now. Perhaps they sell some pins or connectors. I´ll keep you posted.

 

Reply from supplier in china: "we do have original sumitomo item. but the item 6098-5611 no stock now. can you wait for 8 weeks? we need order from Sumitomo." Unfortunately no other info (price/shipping) - I will ask that in 8 weeks again.

Today the video adapter connector from aliexpress arrived. The slots for the terminals/pins look the same as these at the power connector for the CMU. I removed/deconnected the pins/terminals from the connector with a hair clip - as shown in this youtube-video.

Measurements in mm:

According to these measurements these pins/terminals must be these (Sumitomo 8240-0215), which are available here at aliexpress.com:

The smaller pins look like this:

...and they are measured approx. 1,46 mm x 1,88 mm x 15,44 mm.

Today I put the pins/terminals which I extracted from the aliexpress video adapter to the CMU "power & more" connector in slots 2S and 2T. Before I opened the security thing at the connector. Everything is fine. The cable ends in the fuse box area of the driver legroom, where also ground is available.

I did not copy/paste any command, as I am still on FW 56.xx and do not know what happens, if I use the commands with my FW.

Correct, the linked pins are for the larger pins on the sides (2S and 2T).

The de-pinned one from the video-adapter work as well as those from Aliexpress. I tried both:

- Video-Adapter: More expensive, pins already crimped to a cable, so that you just have to connect cables
- Aliexpres-Pins only: Cheaper/more pins. You have to crimp them properly to a cable.

To crimp the Aliexpress pins properly I bought this crimping ratchet/tool: Aliexpress-Link - see photo attachment. Probably there are also other ways to crimp properly, but I am not a professional electrican, so I have to use those tools.

Please be aware, that the cables (soldered or pinned) shall not stay connected to the serial connector. The cables shall be disconnected from the serial connector when it is not in use. Otherwise the serial connector gets data and this uses battery and probably slows the CMU down. But that I do not know for sure.

 

Makes sense. I just need the serial connection to install the id7 autorun scripts

 

would love if you could work out the connectors for the BOSE amp.. so i can very cleanly replace it. Currently just spliced into the wires which works well but i'm a perfectionist.

 

If it is of any help, I made photos of the connectors of the BOSE amp of my 2016 CX-5 when I sound deadened the floor. From the photos it looks like that the pins of the green connector might be the same pins from Aliexpress I posted earlier - but I am not sure.

Thanks to those on this thread for sharing this very useful info. I used the info here to make a serial connection to the CMU in my son's car (2015 Mazda3) that I could leave in place for any future needs. I decided to get a cable like the one noted by @Tristan-cx5 above. I found it on ebay, which was a bit easier for me to order:

This comes from China, arrived in about 10 days, and was $20. This worked great, as I was able to remove the larger pins on the ends, and they fit just right into the CMU connector. This enabled me to connect some addition wire length to them, and have them nicely coiled and tucked away behind the glove box, if I need to make a serial connection again in the future.

Since this topic is talking about cabling I would like to know if anyone has any idea if it is possible to connect one of these wireless carplay dongles (Carplay2Air Carlinkit 2.0) to the cmu directly using a patch cable to the second USB port of the cmu (that supports usb host).

My idea was to install them in the glovebox and use this cable:

Then I would change one end with an usb receptacle header and connect the wireless dogle there directly.

 

I doubt, that the green cable fits in the free slot in the CMU. When retrofitting AA/CP, you have to put in a blue cable with different connector. At retrofitting the green connector is replaced by another green connector.

But if you take the blue connector or other pins (e.g. isolated with heat shrink tube), connection might work.

But if you can connect a usb connector (slot) to the "blue cables" directly, without a usb hub, I can not say. You would have to try that. And you would have to connect the blue cables wires correctly to the usb connector slot.

Perhaps these wiring diagrams of a CX-5 KF help you, as the AA/CP cables and CMU connectors are the same for nearly all models (except M3 2019/CX-30 with Connect II system).

You could try to buy a AA/CP cable set C830V660Z to use the blue cable from it. At www.teile-profis.de its about 82 € excl. shipping.

Hi Guys,

had the opportunity to install the cable in the car but unfortunately it does not trigger anything related with carplay
At least i can fast charge the phone with it. ( i had to switch the v+ and v- in the cable header before installing)

I left the cable connected so later i'll see with lsusb what new devices are detected by the cmu.

 

@Tristan-cx5, do you have wiring diagram for the connector that I marked red-circled in the photo?
