Heard from the shop tonight. He is saving the clutch for me. He said when he pulled it out one side was burned and the other just disintigrated into tiny pieces. He was expecting to need to machine the flywheel, like you would with most clutch failures, but he said there was no need. The flywheel looked perfect.

His comment was he was saving the clutch and documenting what he found because it was an obvious part failure and he expected a class action lawsuit against Mazda, it looked that bad.

SPEC stage 2 clutch going in tomorrow.

Got the car back today. I'll try to get some photos of the old clutch up tomorrow.

SPEC clutch feels great. I can't tell too much difference, but my daughter says it feels better than stock and is not difficult at all, very easy to drive.

At this point I definitely recommend the SPEC Stage 2 for stock setups.

Good to hear. Hopefully this one holds tough, if it doesn't then we may have other internal issues. One member here is on his third OEM clutch, which I would think is something defective inside causing poor alignment.

But keep us updated Ron

Nope, no problems, but then I only get to drive it less than 50 miles a week. 6929 so far in the year and half since I got it.

I hope his prediction comes true...I had a feeling all along I wouldn't be the only experienced manual driver to have a total failure....

I beat my clutch up a little for the first 50 miles, but have been really easy on it since. When i push the clutch pedal in on a flat surface the car moves forward very slowly, this leads me to think its not fully disengaging even with the pedal on the floor =\

Hey, I'm back. I have successfully put 26k miles on my 3rd oem clutch. The first two lasted 8k miles a piece. On the way home from church last sunday, my clutch started to vibrate once again :argh 1:... It is vibrating quite badly at the moment, so I have to purchase a new clutch ASAP! Only problem is that idk which one to go with. I have been thinking about the SPEC stage 2 plus the concentric hydraulic release bearing/slave cylinder to go with it. Is this a good Idea?

Also, I think that my most recent service visit (last wednesday) has had something to do with my clutch going bad once again. The technician was just about redlining the engine to pull it up a "small" incline to enter the service bay, then same technique when taking her for a test drive :argh 1:! I have had no issues with it for almost 2 years, and most recent costed me $16xx.xx!!

I am also taking my car to a local guy who has been a mechanic for almost 30 years, so I think he will be able to fix my car better than the stealer$hit ever did.

Any suggestions on the clutch?

Thanks,
Alex

What do you mean by vibrate? Cause mine did this weird vibrating thing yesterday, which I have never heard before...
