2012 Mazda 3i Skyactiv, 135,000 miles.
During normal acceleration the CEL starts to flash and the traction light comes on solid.
Engine has a code for Misfire Cylinder #3
Dealer wasn’t for sure why I was getting a misfire code. The software was upgraded to help the misfire issue.
Fuel injectors changed out 25k ago.
Spark plugs have 35k.
Dealer wants me to de-carbon the valves and do a injector service.
I haven’t taken it in since the traction light started coming on.

I found a thread with this exact problem.
No one reported the solution.

Took my Mazda to an automotive repair shop other than the dealer.

My injectors checked out good.

Now the focus in on the intake valves.

Have you done a compression check by any chance?
Hows the wiring to coil # 3 look? Checked the connectors for corrosion?

All the coil connections look good.
The coils were moved around from cylinder to cylinder. No change. Always misfire #3

Yes the shop did a compression test.
No problems were found.

Walnut blasted the intake.
This stopped the traction control light, and the CEL from flashing.

I still had the misfire on # 3 cylinder.

Replaced all the spark plugs with NGK ILKAR7L11

The misfire went away.

I ohm’d out the old spark plugs.

They didn’t ohm out. There was a coating or some type of corrosion on the end of the plug. Preventing the spark plug boot from making a good electrical connection.

The plugs were NGK ILKAR7L11

(Verified with the Mazda dealer that this was the correct plug)

my owners manual shows the old plug number.

The gaps on the old plugs were within spec.

All 4 plugs had this problem. So when I swapped plugs from cylinder to cylinder nothing changed.
