I checked Mazda for recall info and it said that there were no recalls for my car. MazdaUSA > MyMazda > Recalls

Guess we can wait a bit longer and see if we need to go in and have stuff fixed.

All the recall lists I have seen show Mazda 6, Speed 6, RX-8 and a few other vehicles being on the recall but not the Mazda 3. Of course now that Takata has finally admitted a problem that list may expand.

no because they changed design in 2012, so most new vehicles will use new takata airbags.
