Hello Mazda friends,

I am Mekkie and i own a Mazda CX5 2015.
I am so happy that this forum exist because there is no CX5 forum.
This is my first thread and i hope that my research trough the complete forum was thoroughly enough so that my question wasn't already answerd.
I installed an aftermarket back up camera in my Mazda CX5 2015 facelift model with MZD-connect system.
The system was running firmware 51.00.351 and after a MZD-connect reset the cam was working, but the next time i started the car it was gone???
Doing a reset again did bring back the cam again but only for that drive, after a stop the cam was gone again.
Due to rebootproblems of the MZD-connect my Mazda dealer updated the system for me with version 59.00.502 and i was hoping that the update would solve my cam problem also…………….unfortunally it didn't :-(
The cam gets a 12v connection as soon as the car goes in acc mode and stays on even if the car goes in ignition mode.
As long as the car is running and the cam is active i can disconnect the power to the cam or disconnect the RCA cable as often as i want and after connecting the power or RCA cable the cam stil works!

My guess is that the system checks whether there is a cam connected and running directly when MZD-connect starts and that my cam just takes a split second to long to boot up.

Is there a way to make MZD-connect look longer for a cam or perhaps to let the system think that there is a cam connected?
Another option could be taking a 12v of a cable that gets power before the MZD-system gets power (but is off when the car is parked) but which cable would that be?

Maybe i'm not looking correctly at this problem and hope that someone here has a solution for me :)

2017mazda3 mentioned in a post that it looks like the MZD-connect get's pre-activated when the car is unlocked.
This gave me the idea of trying to start the car asap after opening the doors and see whether the back up camera wil work without having to reset every time.
So far every time I started the car this way the camera functions!
Now I would like to find out how this pre-activation works in order to find a 12v cable which also gets pre-activated.

Every tip is highly appreciated:)

6v cable

Turns out 2017mazda3 was right, the CMU get's pre-activated as soon as the doors are unlocked.
I measured that the factory rear camera output of 6v (from the CMU) is active for 10 seconds after door unlocking.
This output also gets activated when the car is running and is set in reverse gear.
Unfortunately this output is 6v and my aftermarket camera is 12v (as the most of them).
What I am testing now is taking a 6v relay which gets activated through the factory camera output and let the contacts send a 12v signal from the fusebox to the aftermarket camera.
Note that the fuse tap used always has 12v, even when the car is off.

So far this seems to do the trick.

Problem solved!

The CMU has a 6v output which gets activated for 10sec as soon as the doors are unlocked.
This output also gets 6v when the gear is put into reverse.

I took a 6v relay and used it contacts to send a 12v signal to the camera.
The 12v is tapped from a fuse in the fusebox which has always 12v (even when the car is off).

Works flawless now :)
