Hi there! When I started the car this morning, a "Auto. Transmission Malfunction" warning was present on my screen. Tried restarting the vehicle, and all was good again. Tried driving the vehicle and everything seems fine. What could this issue be? Hoping that it's nothing serious and that someone can enlighten me! Many thanks

The computer should have a malfunction code stored if it is something serious. You can read the code yourself with the proper device. Many auto supply stores will read the code for you at no charge. Or, if it's under warranty, bring it to the dealer and let them do it. A code would tell why the warning light flashed on unless it was just a transient fault with the warning light system and there was really nothing wrong afterall.

Just searching for the same issue in a 2014 Mazda3. This has happened a few times already over the span over a few weeks.

It happens upon startup. I decided to check with the OBD reader while the message was still on the screen (not on the dash). The scan didn't show up any error codes. Once I turn off the engine, it goes away.

So in summary, the code only appears on the infotainment display not on the dash during start up. Since it's happening a few times there's something going on which leaves you with less confidence on the safety of the vehicle as once the AT icon shows on the dash, it's usually too late and damage is severe.

Has anyone had this error message show up and what did they do about it?

It sounds like the title of this thread should be "infotainment display malfunction," since it does not seem that the automatic transmission is actually malfunctioning and there is no code stored related to it.

I remember this happening to my car when it was near new. ~1500km. I turned it on in the morning (cold start). Then after driving off for a few seconds...the "AT" light came on. Checked the warning guidance in the infotainment and it said somtehing was very wrong with the AT and i should get it checked by Mazda.

However driving for a few more minutes....the warning disappeared including the light. Must be like a bug/glitch...

The battery is brand new. In fact this and more started after the dealer replaced the battery in late October.

Little glitches commonly happen in newer cars with all the electronics. I personally don't believe any failure indication until I disconnect the battery for a while and it comes back.
