Anyone? I've tried twice now and failed miserably both times. I cannot find a way to stick the tape without it causing the dip to peel up from the chrome strip when I remove it. It ends up with such rough uneven edges. But I really want that chrome strip gone.

Just buy the black strips from the dealer. It's only like $70. Plastidip is not worth the hassle imo

did you peel the tape up while the paint is still dry? that's the only way to do it with plasti dip really.

.....I recently finished blacking out the last bit of chrome, being the chrome trim around the fog lights as well as the window trim. I love the way it came out and on the first shot...I would recommend to leave a good 2 inches around all sides of the trim. Take your time and go light between coats, don't try to get it done with 1 or 2 coats. I applied at least a good 6/7 coats. Let it dry at least 10 minutes between coats and make sure it is nice and dry before peeling of the excess. Ive included before and after pics..... :laugh2:

Ya. I mean, I thought I did. It's hard to get a light coat even from a new can. Hahaha. I didn't know the dealer sold black strips. That's definitely the plan now. Those strips are the last bit of chrome on my black hatch. Not sure about dipping the 18's though. There is such a thing as too much dip.

Try vinyl wrapping it? Less hassle than dip. Mine is wrapped in black chrome.

Good advice already offered by others (buy the black strips from dealer or wrap them). My 2014 iSport (base model with 2.0L) has the plain black strips, which meant that the salesman tried to get me to go up a trim level (iTouring) by highlighting the "fancy" chrome ones. lol :no: :thumbdown 1:

+1 on vinyl wrap over dip. Holds up really well & easily reversible.
Mine has been on for almost 2yrs....

I think the chrome looks good on certain colours such as blue or black. Just not on my white... Lol

Yeah, chrome does not look good on bright color cars. White with black accent looks great together I originally had my chrome wrapped in gloss black but then grew tired of the look and everybody is doing it so went black chrome. So far it's my favorite look. It looks better than the ugly bright chrome but not too aftermarket'ish lol

Dipping was easy. Taping using tape and drape(look it up great product). Spray two solid coats and peel tape after second coat.

A lot depends on the car's color. Mine is red, which looks good with chrome or black trim. I like the grill trim and emblems, but the window trim bothers me. It would be fine if it were all chrome, like the 6, or all black, but half and half just looks unbalanced.

I photoshopped my car to decide and like the all black window trim better, so I'm ordering those pieces.

I hope reality matches my fakery!

That's them, thanks @Dova. I paid the same too online. I don't come on these forums as often as I used to because with the phone app so horrible I only access from computer when I am at work. Hardly ever use my personal laptop.
