First came the curiosity of adding paddles to my base '15 M2 DJ hatch. Discussed w/ the dealership headtech on the possibility, wiring diagram & hardware. Then, the digging for the necessary absent parts. While waiting for em, a good bud custom-machined me a paddle adapter to the shape of the aft-market steering wheel &
MAZDA OEM 14-15 6 Steering Wheel-Paddle Shifter GJY1763P0. My appreciation goes to those 2 geniuses.

Grabbed the following OE parts:
1. Clockspring w/ paddle pins. The stock had none:

2. Steering wheel control harness that plugs into the above clockspring. This is where the paddles are connected to....

3. 3-pinned wire Cable to connect into the 2 respective plugs behind the clockspring & control module harness. Pack came w/ 2 slightly different cables. Mine used the 1 w/ longer female pins on 1 end. Connected the black ground to the black wire on that other black wire on the lower connector.

This is where it connects to:

This is how the new clockspring looks. identical w/ old but w/ complete pins....

With new steering control harness:

Tested if it down/upshifts correctly prior to & buttoning up....

It's ALIVE!!!! D/M gear indicator display suddenly shows up. Proof that Skyactiv control modules are paddle-ready.:)

Grabbed this connector kit from japan:K015-V7-481

Had to grab a clockspring w/ pins for paddle harness as the M2DJ came without. Not all would require this part.

For the steering back cover, please search for corresponding matches. The BM & BN have different wheels.
For DIY, there are great CX5 paddle guides all over.
Hope this helps! Enjoy!

I have been researching more about the subject and I could see in several videos that people install this without needing to change the clockspring and even without the need to cross the 2 wires to the Star / Stop Unit. (Maybe for the year of manufacture of each car),
Make sure before ordering the clockspring without having any need.
Personally, I have dedicated everything but the clockspring and if it does not work like that, I would have to request it later.
Regards.

My M2 DJ clockspring had no pins for the paddle shifters in its terminal. The CX5s in most DIY guides out there have those pins in the stock clockspring terminal.
Check yours to proceed.

Looking at a 2018 Touring.... Is there anything I can do to determine ensure I can do the retrofit one way or another? I looked at one guide and they said the car VIN needed to start with a J, is this true for 2018? Mine started with "3M".

Thanks

Replacing with aftermarket - eg JDM, Kenstyle or piggy back adhesive ones

The narrow paddle joint mounts are easy.

If you're planning to replace the oem plastic paddle...the new metal ones just pop on - (like a watch band pin)

You mean for cars that have existing paddles?

Mine doesn't have any paddles... Its the touring (Not GT) model.

There is a post where I posted where I brought mine...
that is a kit.

from Japan

[NEW] JDM MAZDA CX-3 DK STEERING SHIFT SWITCH GENUINE OEMSKU: Y00178

from Yamato parts

since my car is a 2015 iTouring, from mexico, I did not had to need the wires from the bottom side of the steering column, all was done from the wheel. I opened it, and check and all connections where there

had to use use the existing harness from the car and connect the paddles...

from what I have seen some cars are different than others, so you need to understand what goes where... took me a couple of hours since airbag is a nightmare to take off.
