Out of that £23,085, 3847.50 is tax (VAT), 550 is Vehicle Excise Duty (essentially another tax), first registration is £265. So the cost of the car was more like £18,422, you just can't buy it for that

In the UK the price you see is the price you pay, not just with cars but in any shop. So if you go food shopping and see something for £5 that already includes the tax, inlude the US where you'd see something for $5 then go to pay and they price increases when they add on tax
