I own a 2022 Mazda3 M/T. I was driving home over the summer in cruise control going about 70 in 6th gear when the rpms began fluttering. The car lost all acceleration and I rolled off the highway. With only 4000 miles, the dealership told me the clutch was completely disintegrated and parts of it had scattered across the engine. The car I had only had for a few months had to be in the shop for about a month.

Now only 3000 miles later I was driving home and all of a sudden the clutch reeked so it will be going into the shop within the next few days.

Has anyone had any similar problems because the dealership said they have never seen a clutch been toated so bad with such little mileage?

Several possibilities here -
One - Driver error.....First manual shift car or been driving one for some time?
Two - The first one was defective, the second was installed wrong
Three - There is something else wrong thats causing the clutch to self destruct
Four - The dealership is employing monkeys to do their repair work.....

For the first failure: Could it be so that while driving at high speeds, a low gear (for ex. 2nd gear while driving at 70 mph) is tried to be engaged while the clutch is still being depressed?

Would the throw bearing or pilot bearing failing prematurely be the cause

If you touch any pedal in cruise control.. it turns off. Really don't see how the clutch would have been damaged or how the RPMs would fluctuate in cruise control.. some info is missing here.

Yea, typically clutch isn't going to blow up like that unless there is a reason behind it. Literally, it would need to be really out of alignment, or getting covered in oil, or getting hot due to improper adjustment in which cases it would likely slip a lot.

Yea the car was in 6th gear but the display was saying it was in second. My feet never touched the clutch but the display seemed to think the car was not in the right gear.
