Hi all,

So some of you have probably seen my rant posts on the 3rd gen 2014 Sedan I currently drive.

This yr I drove a couple of cars:
2022 Lexus ES 350 and 300h
2022 Nissan Sentra
2020 mazda3 hatch

My Sedan complaints were it's overall nvh refinement like road, wind and engine noise.

The Sentra was awful. Idk how it's improved. Feels like my 3.

The Lexus were really quiet, especially the hybrid. I liked them both but the ride, while smooth, wasn't surprisely soft. I still felt bumps and small imperfections for a $63000 Luxury Sedan.

Saturday I drove a 2020 hatch. This was a GT with aftermarket 19" Enkei wheels and Laufenn S F AS performance rubber. Ride quality to my surprise is so smooth and much better than my 3. It's like the Lexus ES firmness and smooths it out. Not too soft but I loved it. Imagine if I got 16" alloys with Goodyear Comfortdrive tires or Pirelli Cinturato. That would make it super soft.
I feel it's real quiet, too. Not too far off of a Lexus. This despite the ES350 equipped with UL so it has acoustic front and side glass and noise reduction 18" rims. Lexus was also on Michelin tires which are known as high quality rubber with good nvh. I feel those 2 things didn't do much cause the ES300H was quieter without them - drove a Luxury trim.

Overall, super impressed with nvh on the 4th gen. I'm not sure how the car handles but the nvh is nice.
I tested a CX-5 2019 and it's still old Mazda. It felt louder than the 2020 3 hatch and vs my 3, slightly smoother. Even though CX-5 comes standard with acoustic glass front and side. CX-5 was on Yokohama G20 and 18 alloys.

I want to place an order for a 3 Sedan, Hatch or a CX-30 but I hate how small and tight these cars are...

What do you guys think of my observations? Next week I'm going to check out the Subaru Crosstrek which I heard rides my plush than a CX-30 but louder. Heck, it's roomier however.

At the end of the day, I felt Lexus was very nice but not $63K CAD nice. Also got my 3 serviced there to install the shocks and struts. They called during service that they misquoted me and I would be charged $105 to install old springs to the new shocks. Quite unbelievable the advisor missed that. I never had service like this and I'll never go to Lexus... Complained to Lexus Canada and no response... I feel like they did this to pay back some lost time driving their cars?

Also I was told to sit anywhere I liked to do my work. They had no issues and no one told me I wasn't allowed to sit by the front entrance desk. The advisor said anywhere is fine... Near the end of my work a salesman comes up to me and tells me that seating area was for employees only.
Lexus dealership experience isn't great tbh....

The black car in your picture has 18" wheels and tires - just blow it up a bit and it's clearly marked.

Also, that seems like an excessive amount of wheel gap...I wonder if the suspension was somehow modified.
Oh yeah. Is wheel gap bad? It rode very well.

What if I had put my 16" steel rims and Goodyear Comfortdrive on this 2020 3? Would the ride improve and be softer?

Wheel gap isn't necessarily bad, it just looks funny when there is a lot of it, especially what looks like more than a normal ride height, adding the 16" steel wheels with the right size tire will be a softer ride but at that point im not sure if you would loose any of the handling due to more tire, 16's look pretty small on these cars in my opinion, I have 17's and i feel they're kinda small.
not sure if your pic is deceiving but to me it looks like at least an extra inch of height in the rear.

I can't stand big wheels. I want a plush ride. The hatch felt pretty smooth despite having 18s. 😋

Smoother than many cars I've driven. The Lexus ES wasn't much smoother. 😳
Also, as quiet as an ES. Idk why CR and auto journalists say ES is super quiet. Hybrid yes but not by much. They also misled me into thinking I'd get a pillow ride.

ES350 is kind of a sports car setup. If you want more luxury sports. Look at the infinity qx50, or q50 or more comparable to the mazda would be UX hybrid or slip into audi q3 or q5.
Weird. What makes an ES sports setup and the others luxury?

I like the qx50 looks.
Infiniti looks awesome with nice design. Lexus has some nasty looking cars. But I'm not sure if Infiniti is as great as it was...🙁

Look around, Infinity is still really nice. Audi as well, but they aren't as well known for lasting into the 200k mileage club as well.
