Hi all,
So some of you have probably seen my rant posts on the 3rd gen 2014 Sedan I currently drive.
This yr I drove a couple of cars:
2022 Lexus ES 350 and 300h
2022 Nissan Sentra
2020 mazda3 hatch
My Sedan complaints were it's overall nvh refinement like road, wind and engine noise.
The Sentra was awful. Idk how it's improved. Feels like my 3.
The Lexus were really quiet, especially the hybrid. I liked them both but the ride, while smooth, wasn't surprisely soft. I still felt bumps and small imperfections for a $63000 Luxury Sedan.
Saturday I drove a 2020 hatch. This was a GT with aftermarket 19" Enkei wheels and Laufenn S F AS performance rubber. Ride quality to my surprise is so smooth and much better than my 3. It's like the Lexus ES firmness and smooths it out. Not too soft but I loved it. Imagine if I got 16" alloys with Goodyear Comfortdrive tires or Pirelli Cinturato. That would make it super soft.
I feel it's real quiet, too. Not too far off of a Lexus. This despite the ES350 equipped with UL so it has acoustic front and side glass and noise reduction 18" rims. Lexus was also on Michelin tires which are known as high quality rubber with good nvh. I feel those 2 things didn't do much cause the ES300H was quieter without them - drove a Luxury trim.
Overall, super impressed with nvh on the 4th gen. I'm not sure how the car handles but the nvh is nice.
I tested a CX-5 2019 and it's still old Mazda. It felt louder than the 2020 3 hatch and vs my 3, slightly smoother. Even though CX-5 comes standard with acoustic glass front and side. CX-5 was on Yokohama G20 and 18 alloys.
I want to place an order for a 3 Sedan, Hatch or a CX-30 but I hate how small and tight these cars are...
What do you guys think of my observations? Next week I'm going to check out the Subaru Crosstrek which I heard rides my plush than a CX-30 but louder. Heck, it's roomier however.
At the end of the day, I felt Lexus was very nice but not $63K CAD nice. Also got my 3 serviced there to install the shocks and struts. They called during service that they misquoted me and I would be charged $105 to install old springs to the new shocks. Quite unbelievable the advisor missed that. I never had service like this and I'll never go to Lexus... Complained to Lexus Canada and no response... I feel like they did this to pay back some lost time driving their cars?
Also I was told to sit anywhere I liked to do my work. They had no issues and no one told me I wasn't allowed to sit by the front entrance desk. The advisor said anywhere is fine... Near the end of my work a salesman comes up to me and tells me that seating area was for employees only.
Lexus dealership experience isn't great tbh....
