I ripped a varied series of CDs I own. Meticulously cataloged and tagged into their genres, artists and albums. Made sure the files are tagged in both ID3v1 and ID3v2.3. Verified in multiple apps that the tags are set.

My genres are as such: Alternate Rock, Ambient, Celtic, Classic Rock, Country, etc.
My folder hierarchy is Genre\Artist\Album\*

Then I placed them on my USB drive and installed in the car. When I went to review the genres, there are genres listed that don't exist on the stick, such as Pop, Other, Roots. Many of the genres I set, e.g. Country, don't exist, and the files are listed in other genres.

I have tried a soft reset, and a factory reset, to no avail.

What the heck is going on, and how can I resolve?

Probably connected to the infotainment's other USB issues such as where a USB may have 500+ songs loaded but the same 10, 15 or 20 songs will play when set to "shuffle".

As an update for those interested, things appear to be resolved. I downloaded the Gracenote_ADP_October2017.up file, and my car would not recognize it. After more research, I figured out the ADP version of the file is Australian. I needed to download the Gracenote_NA_October2017.up (North American) file for the update to work.

After "breaking" Gracenote, my genres are now appearing correctly.

Also, I noted that the file size difference between the ADP and NA versions was pretty big, with the ADP file being 439.6MB, and the NA file being 262.5MB.

Yep. It's Gracenote. It takes the info from your files, matches it to its database, and then displays its own info while totally ignoring your custom tags. That's the way it has always behaved, and no firmware or Gracenote update has ever changed it.

Disabling it, as you have done, is the only way to get your tags to show up exactly the way you want. An option in music settings to choose between using Gracenote tags or user tags would be really nice. Maybe someone with the AIO tweaks group could figure that out, but I'm sure we'll never get the option from Mazda.
