Hey everyone,

I am thinking of adding fog lights to my 16 Mazda 3, as I have an Amazon gift card that would cover the majority of a kit + Switch
(Remarkable Power FL7071)

Do you think fog lights would be worth adding? Still deciding between this and the OEM sun shade cover...

Any input would be appreciated.

It's a personal decision.

If you want fog lights for extra vision in the fog, don't get them. Most folks, including yours truly, say they can't tell the difference with the fog lights on or off when the headlights are on in the dark.

If you want fog lights for the appearance and to fill in that blank space where they would go, then get them. They do that good.

You don't really need a kit. The car is already wired for fog lights. All you need to do is install the lights and swap in the OEM fog light column switch.
That being said, most cheap lights are just cosmetic. Unless you are willing to shell out for a set of higher end lights such as Morimotos, they won't make enough difference to justify the cost.

I agree with the last two statements about the stock (or cheaper) fog/driving lights. My OEM LED fog lights that came on my 2017 M3GT basically just flood the area nicely below the front bumper and doesn't put anything much on the road where you can see it. They look nice and likely add to conspicuousity, but that's about it.

That said, I'd love to find a good and easy swap out option for the existing bulb/reflectors. :)

There's a recent post on here somewhere from a new Morimoto fog light buyer who was not at all impressed with the light output.

However, there are some who have reported liking the expensive Morimoto fog lights, although some of that might be because many seem to cut-off the restraining tabs from the lights' housings in order to raise the lights higher up so they can see more of an effect farther down the road under non-fog conditions. However, the tabs are there to keep the "fog" lights pointed downward where they are intended to be in order to see the sides of the road in fog and also to prevent blinding oncoming drivers.

Many believe that fog lights are not as necessary in today's vehicles with low-beam headlights with projectors that have a good cut-off effect, like the Mazdas. These headlights work better in the fog and other obscuring weather than older designs which tend to throw the light higher up and cause more of a blinding effect.

As I noted, I like my fog lights, only not because they actually are useful in the fog.

I am very happy with my Morimoto's. the stock bulbs were terrible and the CS Led bulbs didnt help at all.
Likewise. They're actually more effective as driving lights, but I still live them.

And I wouldn't call the Morimoto lights expensive. You get what you pay for, and the value is good. Cheap is cheap, always.

Get the Morimotos. I have a Canadian spec GS and I bought a used set of stock fog lights from LKQ and I can barely see my fogs when they are on. Upgraded my bulbs from H11 to H9, it got a bit brighter but still useless so I just retrofitted my halogen low beams to Bi-xenon HIDs.
