I've had my 2015 S grand touring 3 since September 2014. Basically since I hit 1,000 miles the center console area makes these random snapping, popping, cracking noises. It happens even when the car is not moving or off. I'd imagine it's the plastics shifting around but I'm curious if others have encountered this issue? Fixes? It is incredibly annoying. The dealership has fiddled around with the console a few times, tightened things, etc but with no success.

I've found that I'll get quite a few cracking noises on a cold day when I put the heat on. I attribute it to the plastics expanding from heat. I have a feeling that it's going to do behave like that forever -- it's inevitable. Anyone have a Playstation 3 Slim? It's kinda like that, but it doesn't quite sound like it's splitting in half like the PS3 does.

When I'm referring to the center console, I'm not talking about the arm rest. I mean the infotainment screen area (including the buttons for a/c, radio, etc). I went over a large bump (not pothole) yesterday (I live in Boston...there are many) and the console area made a snapping sound so loud I thought I blew out a tire (or splitting in half like parkinskin's PS3). Touching the base of where the infotainment screen sits will sound off a nice loud POP! noise. Great build quality. Others must be having this issue to the same degree. I can't imagine I'm the only one!

I can almost guarantee the sound you hear is from the CD player enclosure. I heard the noise on bumpy roads and it drove me crazy. Dealer didn't resolve it, so I just removed the player myself. That solved my center console rattle.

If you search under CD player, you'll come across other threads where I talk about this.

So you just removed the cd player and it went away? I definitely don't need the cd player but it's a lease so that's not happening. Moving the LCD screen just the slightest will cause a POP! sound. Pushing in or up on the cd player encasement will give me a similar sound. Obviously these noised happen whether or not I'm touching something. I'm planning on bringing the car into the dealership in a few weeks for basic maintenance and I'm going to have them take a final look. Perhaps some strategically placed felt or a tightened bolt will fix it. I'm close to just trading the car in, I can't handle the noises anymore! Totally fed up.

I have the same problem and I think the sound comes from the center console area. I was in the service, and they are tightened gadget, but the problem is not solved. I'll try to locate the source of sound using self-adhesive tape and used silicone spray.

Did you put anything in place of the CD player or you just left it open? I think I might remove mine too lol

I couldn't find anything specific that would fit the enclosure, so plan B was to find anything sensible to fill the hole. I took some air conditioning weatherstripping from Home Depot, cut it to size, spray painted it black (it comes in gray) and slid it in. It may not look all that great, but not having the rattle makes it look beautiful to me.:laugh2:

I have a 2014 and have a lot of popping/cracking noises coming from the center stack area when driving. I occurs ver just about every bump as well as intermittently when just driving. The silver plastic piece bordering the two center vents is a little loose, but when I push on the plastic pieces, it makes the same noise. This makes me think that it is a build quality issue and it ain't going away unless its disassembled and put back together with cloth or foam or something to keep the plastics from shifting. Mazda built a great drive train but their interior is crap, at least on mine.

onimazda, your description is exactly what mine does. I couldn't have said it any better. I'm bringing my car into the dealership in three days for this issue, along with a squeaky driver's seat bolster, INSANE amounts of wind noise over 60 MPH (which I understand is common on this car), creaking door hinges, and a lot of vibration in the steering wheel when accelerating. I've had the car in at least 4 times at this point for the same problems--time to start thinking lemon. I'm not happy shelling out cash for a car that pisses me off every time I drive it when I could have practically just got a new A3 for the same $. Rant over!

Dang, sorry to hear about your issues...the minor noises really do hit a nerve with me too. Hope you get your issues all sorted out, so far i'm very happy with my ownership after 1 year.

I took my car to dealer today and told them about the noise. They checked a couple other Mazda 3's that they had there and they made the same noise. They told me that since my car is under 12,000 miles (I have 9800 now), Mazda covers sound deadening in the interior. They disassembled the area and put the sound deadening in (like felt tape). My center stack feels a lot more solid now. It fixed the noise in that area about 95% so I am content and no longer creaks when I press on it.

If your car is under 12, 000 miles, take it to the dealer and request the sound deadening for that area!! It's covered!

sound deadening?
I've never heard of this fix..hmmm sounds interesting, but i find it odd that it's only covered for vehicles under 12k milles...
i thought everything was covered to 36k?

Hi guys! first post after being a Mazda 3 owner since April last year. I have the 2014 model and have had to deal with the A pillar ticking noise, a left front suspension noise and now this rattling that comes from somewhere near the CD/Center console area. I am fedup with this car and the annoying noises it makes!!!!!! Carried it into the dealer back in January for the A pillar clicking and they thankfully got rid of it, however the rattling while going over bumpy roads is unbearable. The youtube video posted is exactly the same noise I have. I need a fix that doesn't involve removing the CD player tho...

I have the same issue. It sounds like loud snapping and popping up near the window. At first, I thought it was debris hitting the windshield--but then I noticed it was happening with no other cars around.

Is this something that can be alleviated? It's actually startled me a few times.

I have the same problem and noticed it shortly after getting my car in mid April.

In late April, I had to leave the car at the dealer and it was a hot day and the car was sitting out with no sun shield. I got in and blasted the AC and had a lot of popping and snapping on the way home, some pretty loud.

For some reason since then the popping has lessened and it's been more minor crackling sounds, not really bothersome. I use a sun shield (necessary with the FL sun) and I think that helps.

I'm hoping that with time the dash will settle more and the sounds will continue to lessen.
