Hi,
This is my first post and I signed up to this forum to hopefully get my questions/paranoia answered/confirmed. My 2013 Speed has about 340 miles on it and I took it off the dealership a little over a week ago with 3 miles on it. The first few days when I was getting the hang of the awkward clutch I got stuck on a hill once and could smell the clutch a lot. Other than that I haven't had many clutch issues. But my main question is about the transmission. It is sooooo notchy compared to my friends si. It is super rough when I shift through 1st to 2nd gear and feels like it is about to get stuck in neutral. I also have to almost be at a complete stop for it to go into first. Another complaint is that when I shift quickly from 3rd to 4th, I get this smooth "booop" noise as I pass through neutral to get to 4th. So my question is.... Do I need to be worried or is this normal? and if this is normal, how do people go about fixing this? Thanks for your time and I know I sound like a noob but this is the first manual car that I have actually owned.

the "notchyness" for me went started to get better after 5K and all but where destroyed with a shifter bushing kit, now i only get a little notch in 6th. noise from engaging gears is just the way of the beast.

Not to offend, but it could also be your driving. Since this is your first manual car, it could just be that your inexperience is part of the problem given what you are experiencing. I will say, the clutch does take some getting use to, even when I drove my car off the lot, coming from having driven a Mini Cooper S and an Acura, I stalled twice. Took about two days of driving to get timing down and being able to shift smoothly. I dont think you have anything to worry about, might just take some more practice on your part.

There's a steep learning curve with the MS3 clutch. I totally sucked shifting for months. I hadn't used a manual in like ten years so I was really rusty. The 1-2 shift was the worse. Stick with it you'll get smooth with it sooner or later. It's a heavy duty transmission so it's not going to feel like a Honda tranny but will be smooth when you get the hang of it. It's made to handle a lot of torque and everyone has a hard time with it at first.

Hahaha, the "boop" noise is the best description of what I'm hearing as well. Mine is a 2012 with almost identical mileage. This seems to be a characteristic of the tranny..

The transmission will not be as smooth as the Si. Hondas transmissions are notorious for their smoothness. The s2000 I had was easily the best shifting transmission of any car I've driven... And I've worked as a valet in college. (worst goes to the merc c-class hatch)

Yes sir. That's what makes these cars. It's a rough car. It's not smooth and refined.
