2010 3i Fog Light Installation Guide (with pics!)

I finally decided to go ahead and install fogs on my 2010 3i. I'd been hoping someone would do a write-up first because I wasn't sure if I could do this, but got antsy and did it myself over the weekend.

All in all, the install went without a hitch and turned out to be a fun weekend project (and a good way to save $160 on installation costs). It's pretty much wrenching and plug 'n play, which anyone can do. If you're anything like me, you should set aside a few hours to do this -- but keep in mind I'm quite a bit slower and meticulous/organized than most when I do this sort of thing. Especially since I hadn't taken the front bumper off previously. It's less intimidating than it initially seems, and isn't difficult by any stretch with good instructions.

Below are some pics and (and words too!) regarding the install. Probably in more detail than is necessary. I hope it gives the more hesitant among you an idea of what to expect, to motivate you to give it a shot yourself, and to elucidate any issues one might encounter along the way.

But who am I kidding? Most of you are probably zipping around in your fancy GT model while I sob myself to sleep every night. :crybaby 1: :wink 1:

Fog Lamp Enclosure backside

Amazingly, the fog lamp enclosure included some Sylvania bulbs already pre-installed, but I'd previously bought some whiter high temp ones without this knowledge. I'll keep the Sylvi's for spares, unless anyone here want to buy them off of me at an exorbitant price. Shipping is only $75. PM me for bids.

The poor filthy cover had no idea of its soon-to-be fate -- to be heartlessly discarded and never washed again. To live out its days enclosed within a cardboard box inside a closet -- soiled without the comforts of bubble wrap or packing peanuts.

More soon...

Awesome write-up. I've been looking for fog light installation instructions and this one is amazing.

I live in Canada so the models may be slightly different. I have the Canadian Mazda 3 GS with the comfort package, whatever that means. So, one thing I notices it that the signal/light stalk is different than mine. Mine has automatic lights. Do they sell stalks that have automatic lights and fog lights?

Also, what kind of light bulbs do these fog lights use? I've been searching and some say 9006 some say H11. I think the Mazda3 Speed that comes with fog lights has H11 bulbs, but the Mazda 3 GT that comes with fog lights uses 9006. No one mentions what kind of bulbs the after-market fog light use. The place I bought my HID kit for the low beam from accidentally sent me two sets (for the price of one), so I was hoping I could use the extra H11 set for the fog lights. Can you confirm whether it would work or not?

Factory inserts

Hey guys, I was browsing the forums and came across this thread which might in a roundabout way might solve the only problem I've had with my car since I bought it :D

About a month after I got my 2010 Touring, I noticed that somehow (!) I ended up with a really big hole right through the bumper insert on the passenger side. I don't have foglights, and don't have the money to get them right now, so I was wondering if any of you have a set of inserts that you removed to put the foglights in you might be able to sell me? Or possibly direct me to where I can look for a set relatively cheap?

Sorry if I'm posting this question in the wrong section but a friend recommended this approach while he searches the local junk yards for the piece I need. I hope someone can help me out because seeing this hole every time I wash my car is driving me insane

is there any where other then the dealer ship, mazda gear, or buy or mazda parts or whatever that site is called, to buy a fog light kit from?i live in canada and the second site doesnt offer shipping to canada anymore for some reason... i found a site from an ebay post that sells fog light kits. they quoted me 225.80 for the kit. and according to two different dealers, i not only need a new signal switch, i need a new windshield wiper switch as well. so in total it would cost me 367 shipped

The driver side open mesh fog grill came standard on s Sport and s GT models equipped with auto transmissions built before 01/10. I'd say that the only way you could get one is by giving the dealer a vin # that fits that model description so it could be ordered as a replacement. Other than that I think your s.o.l.

hey guys, so i tried putting in my fog lights today and the fog light housing that i have is to small to fit on my bumper.... i dont get it.

i have BCD2-50-11 which is the finned cover like mike has in his first post.

my car originally comes with the fog light cover with the diamonds on it..

does anyone know what part number i would need? i spoke to a Mazda dealership and he said there is about 5 different fog light covers. the only alternate part number on the instructions are BBP8-50-C11 and my dealer said that number doesn't come up for him. keeping in mind i have a Canadian car, and an American fog light kit.

any help is greatly appreciated thanks guys!

So you have the 'newer' cover car, but you ended up with the earlier finned kit? I would guess that the actual fog lights are the same, just all the trim is different? Can you not install the lights themselves without the finned trim?

My 3 is the same as yours, diamond patterned covers and they stay on the car, you just remove the fog light panel and replace with the new silver trim on the outside and the actual fog light on the inside.

Here is what my kit looked like....

This is the only piece that you remove from your car....

Then the silver trim installs from the front and the fog light from the rear and you are done.

What do I do if I have no pre existing bumper cable attached to the dummy plug. I have a 2011 without fg lights. Is there a cable I can buy with the kit to install em myself or am I just not bound to get fog lights lol. Any help would b great

Emily.

Easiest way would be to make your own "Y" harness; ignition powered so you can not accidentally leave them on. Put a switch in the panel on the left side of the dash to control them.

If you must have factory harness, check with your dealers Master Tech to trace that harness in his diagrams to see if it could be added to the car.

Activation is required?

Hi. My mom is getting a brand new Mazda3 i Touring but in Mexico it comes without fog lamps, I will install them but I have a question: Does the fog lamps need to be activated through an ECU or something like that? I installed the fog lamps in my 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer ES but I had to buy the activation with a Mitsu dealer.
Thanks
