That's a bit different though.....I think that feature is pretty neat on the 370's, but like you said...the car is expensive!!

Mine has reved by its self also, Glad im not the only one. So is it a recal? or nothing to worry about?

I suspect this is part of the ecu programming. If you put the car in first, feather it up to 3500 rpm and then release the gas pedal, the car will still get a small bit of power before slowing normally. For the most part it 'hangs' at 2700 rpm.

Someone else explained this as the ecu burning off the extra fuel which is already in the system. This would presumably help reduce emissions, save the catalytic converters undue wear or both.

I'd assume that pushing in the clutch/shifting to neutral just lets you notice this behaviour to a higher degree.

man, idk how you guys wind up with all these problems. squeaks, creaky clutch, trouble shifting to first, random revving... my car's never done any of that.

anyway, my money's on the random revving to be a vacuum leak of some sort.

as for the the rev hang, that's an issue of drive-by-wire, not specific to our car or ecu.

Curious..how many of y'all who this has ACTUALLY happened to you have a PZEV-emissions Mazda3. Someone mentioned it might be emissions-related...mines a PZEV vehicle btw...so maybe that might be just some tacked-on programming...

Mine is a PZEV and has never done this.

I received the car back, and the door still makes noises.. the window is fixed and they were unable to replicate the engine reving.. no surprise since it's rare.

If I take it in again for the door, it will be my 5th time. The noise.. is almost like a ticking noise.. has anybody heard something like that? It drives me crazy. What do yall think.. 5th times a charm or go the lemon law route.. ?

<- also PZEV, and its definitely not a rev hang, it actually revs higher like the throttle gets stuck for a second.

Mine is PZEV, and it's done this while coasting. I don't know if it's any different from you folks, but mine does it when it goes idle then spurt it up to 3K then it drops back down. Hasn't happened in awhile though, and it's never happened while I was in gear, so I'm not worried.

As far as the rev's hanging after you get off the gas, that's natural. My previous 3 did that, that's the lack of response from an ETB. It's definitely improved from the previous models. You might be able to decrease it by grounding the throttle body with another wire.

Just found this thread. I have an early 3s 6 speed pzev. It did the same thing one notable time up to 4k and just hung there, foot off the pedal in neutral coasting to a stop. I spent enough time to make sure my foot was off the gas (it was, coasting with clutch in and foot over brake) til the time I came to a complete stop. I then blipped the throttle and it came back to idle.

I have noticed it shoot up to the 3k range much more frequently like others have mentioned. I have never noticed it speed up in gear, but I have noticed it tend to continue at a constant speed with my foot off the gas for a second or two before deceleration starts, which is spooky in a car with a manual transmission. I was hoping that a software update would come out to fix it, haven't heard of anything yet. I wonder if it is possible to get the non-pzev software loaded onto the car? That sure would solve things.

Funny this has come up as my '10 3s Grand Touring 6spd has done this ~4-5 times in the past 9000 miles.

It seems to happen when the engine is cold on the first or second stop (I am in a gated community so have to make 2 stops on a bone cold engine). I clutch in and start slowing and the engine will rev to 2700-3000RPM for about 1-2 seconds. Has never happened while in gear and cruising.

I drive barefoot quite a bit (can't drive with flip flops on) and the times it has happened while barefoot I can say for sure I was not hitting the gas at the same time.

Weird.
