Hi Guys,

Looking at getting some rims for my 3. Would you go 18's or 19's? and would you lower? I probably prefer the look of 19's with a lower profile tyre but I don't want the ride to be uncomfortable for those long summer road trips. Appreciate all your advice!

Neither. 17x7.5 with 225/50s if you are going to be doing long trips. Going that route is much less expensive, saves a ton of unsprung weight and will ride a lot better than 19 inch rims with tires that don't have sidewalls. Overall performance will be just as good with much less potential for tire failure due to pot holes or road debris.
Lower? Yeah only if done right. No cheap coil overs, use proper quality springs with good aftermarket shocks.

Couple of questions you have to ask yourself... Mostly in regards to reaching your goal for your Mazda 3... Is it an everyday car? Show car?...

1. Most important... How important are looks for you? 17s look ok... 18s are nice. 19s give is a wow.

2. How important is gas millage to you? Might get better gas millage from 17s, compared to 18s and 19s (but of course it depends a lot on the material of what the wheel is made of and width of the wheels).

3. How much money are you willing to spend? 17s are cheaper, etc... And this goes for tires as well.

4. How important is comfort for you?

But again, it will come down to, how important are looks for you? If it's all about the looks, people sacrifice money, riding comfortable, gas millage, etc...

Unsprung rotational weight must be considered. My set of 19s are lighter than stock 18s. No performance nor fuel consumption penalty vs stock. I've stayed w/ Eibach + 225/40 & you won't notice any significant drop in comfort. Car is both a daily hauler & fun weekend warrior.

Minsanity just an FYI I bought Vogtland 958016 after much research. In the older catalog it lists the 958017. In the new it lists both. The 958016 is for Gasoline engines and the 958017 is for Diesel Engines. They list the drop as the same, not sure what the difference really is.

Thanks for the heads up. Now edited. The petrol & diesel variants vary in weight.

I did contact Vogtland in Germany for clarification. I then search for 958016 on eBay and bought from a seller in Germany.
