Gents,

I made a similar thread a little while ago, but I'll just start a new one.

I need to know two (2) things about the Moly-added oil from Mazda (0000-G5-0W20-MQ);

1. Why isn't it offered in Canada? It posseses the same viscosity index as our recommended oil, but with the added bonus of containing molybdenum additive? This should be perfect for our harsh winters! ...no?? Did Mazda choose not to make it available here because of a risk between a very cold climat and metallic molybdenum sediments forming, or something similar? Is there even such a thing?

2. If I use it anyway, will it void my warranty? I've asked Mazda Canada, and of course the "follow your manual" response was thrown around. However, my manual recommends I use 0W20 from Mazda. This is 0W20, and it's from Mazda. Warranty compatible?

I'm just so curious as to why we, the winter people, are receiving a lower grade oil than our southern neighbours.

Oil

Just use the recommended 0w20 or 5w20 Castrol Synthetic oil and don't loose any sleep over it.....just make sure you use a quality (Mazda) oil filter and your done.....

Could be the Canadian government not allowing moly. Possibly for environmental reasons.

For your cold weather, 0w-20 Amsoil is your friend. handles lower temps.

My mechanic told me Mazda engine typically have sludge problem.

Synthetic oil help to keep it clean.
Dirty oil caused too much problems.

Block oil pump are common caused of engine damage.

Car engine last long time without additives, the trick is regular oil change to get rid the sludge.

Any SAE certified 0W-20 oil that meet the API standards listed in the owner's manual will do fine. If you don't have an oil change benefit program from your dealership just find the least expensive 0W-20 available that meets your preferences.

Oh, and take any lubrication fundamentalism that you come across with a grain of salt. Be it here or anywhere else. It amazes me how dogmatic folks can be about engine oil brands, additives and/or viscosities.
